This decision comes as the studio faces the reality that the development of Enginefall requires more time and resources than initially anticipated. In a LinkedIn post, Richardson explained that the extended development schedule for Enginefall necessitates a smaller team. He highlighted the importance of delivering a polished and refined experience, emphasizing the need for additional time to address player experience, performance, cheat protection, and overall clarity. This realization has led to the difficult decision of laying off a portion of the team.
The studio's debut title, Enginefall, has already generated significant interest, attracting over 200,000 players during its participation in the Steam Next Fest. However, the positive response has underscored the challenges ahead. Playtesting will continue, with larger-scale closed sessions scheduled for later this year, indicating a commitment to refining the game.
Red Rover Interactive, founded in June 2023, boasts a talented team with experience on renowned titles such as Day Z, Crysis 2, Ghost Recon, and Dune Awakening. The company secured substantial seed funding of approximately $5 million at launch, led by Behold Ventures and The Games Fund.
